Good art contains authenticity. Audiences demand a two-part contract with art. The first part is that the art needs to be recognizable as art. After all, artists can’t break rules if no rules are established — craft is one way of establishing this. The second part requires one of the rules to be broken because, well, it’s otherwise dull.
I drive down the street everyday. Posters on bus-stops, architecture, billboards, and landscape designs pass by. I have a busy life, everyone does, I don’t have time to think about everything I see. It’s the rule breakers that call my name.
When making art, it’s dangerous to assume anyone cares.
Craft is the sugar that gets the story swallowed.
