Production assistant Mike Formanski is in the distant background. We’re starting to hang the pullies that lift the folding wall.

Really liking the atmospheric generators–but yikes: we’re only gonna have a 45 min shooting window with premium light! And that’s assuming we have a clear day with no clouds!

Construction: we’ve filled in the area between the long boat understructure and the folding room.

We’re testing an atmospheric haze generator (it’s sorta like a subtle fog machine that doesn’t smell).

We've now got the bottom and back wall of the folding room constructed.

We've got the base for the flying boat framed up. Production Assistants Mike Formanski and Blake Sherwood are holding beams to try to help us figure out how wide to make the folding room (that's my hand at the bottom that signifies a 4.5 foot to center distance for this particular test image–we decided to go with a 4 foot to center, or 8 feet across room size to better use the materials).

We're excited to have found a perfect warehouse to begin constructing the set in. It's about 20,000 sq. ft. and it's got wonderful windows.

What Stands Between Us and the Sun

Join us Friday, October 8th from 6-9pm for the opening reception of our latest project, What Stands Between Us and the Sun. The exhibition will be on view between Friday, October 8th and Saturday, November 27th.

What Stands Between Us and the Sun is a photo, installation, and video project.  In a warehouse in Central Falls, Rhode Island, the McMillans built an artificial lake in an invented world where performers alter the lake's structure to fabricate an eclipse of the sun. The work shown at Axiom will be an installation containing video, photography and elements that are made from, and refer to, the set created in Rhode Island.
