Fellini

I showed this is class today and have one now. I don’t think it was the movie, but you never know with Fellini. It might have been the time of day. It might have been the nuts. I got a headache last week when I showed Parajanov’s The Color of Pomegranates too. What is it about nonlinear film? Why can’t they just tell the darn story? Get a plan, stick with it. You know it’s those producers who pay close attention to pre-screenings and polls who mess it all up. They get a hold of films that make perfect sense and dismantle them into train-wrecks of surreal flashbacks and layered allegories. I just read in CNN last week that directors are uniting to stop metaphor proliferation.

Isn’t it interesting that the former head of the CIA thought that one of the most needed elements to fight the war on terror (excuse me, The War on Terror) was creativity? Furthermore, isn’t it interesting how the media is pulling apart facial expressions and potentially significant pauses in the recent presidential debates with the same comb and surgical scalpel used in an art critique.

Murray, you obviously have access to films at Biola. By any chance do you have access to a film called Last Year at Mareinbad? If you do. Can I somehow be arranged to be at Biola when this film is somehow being magically shown for a captive audience of…me?
