We were inspired by THING at UCLA’s Hammer museum this weekend, clearly a roadmap of the future. The surprising curatorial vision blends relaxed wit and craftsmanship (craftspersonship). The kind of show to make you fall in love with art again.

In the initial wall text, THING separates itself from performance and installation, well timed to coincide with the somewhat lackluster Gates opening in NY. It makes sense: subtle nuance can be lost in a large work. THING is a generosity grenade.

    Thanks for sharing that!
I was especially pleased with ‘Sweet and Low Down’ by Kristen Morgin. And hooray to have found your blog – +add to the watch…

Thanks, Bas! Kristen Morgin is a favorite of ours, and, in fact, she teaches ceramics at Cal State Long Beach, where I’m a grad student in the Art History department.
    Best,
