I used to have a picture in my mind of an artist in a studio, working away feverishly towards a completed body of work. But in reality, artists have to be jugglers, keeping the competing plates of artmaking, gig-getting, socializing, fundraising, and business management spinning in a harmonious blend that keeps the bills paid and the art flowing, and still leaves room for dinners with friends and the occasional live music-making extravaganza.
The artist Jennifer Dalton is asking the question, “How Do Artists Live?” in a survey that addresses the issues that really do apply to working artists.
