A while back I posted a quote from Camus, who I’d been reading in an art theory course, and Micah, who makes a serious study of philosophy, asked why I’d been reading the late philosopher. I cast off a quick answer, that there are a lot of overlaps between art and philosophy, and he followed up with a request for more explanation. What follows is an attempt to answer that request, but first I must begin with a caveat: while I’ve taken more than a few art history courses and endeavor to make a serious study of it myself, I’m by no means an expert.
