This weekend, El Bruc celebrated Spain’s 1808 victory over Napoleon’s army with the Festa del Timblar: a festival of parades, drumming, food, and re-enactments of the famous battle where one El Bruc boy played the drums so loudly, that the approaching French believed they were outnumbered and fled the scene.

All day the valley has rung with canons firing, muskets cracking and drums rumbling.
