Anish Kapoor, Cloud Gate, Millennium Park, Chicago, 2004
It’s hard to fully appreciate “the bean” without seeing it in person. This is public art at its best. The popular urban copyright myth claiming that the artist won’t permit the public from taking photos is not true (says Wikipedia). However, it’s close to truth: commercial photographers are denied access unless they have a permit, which is what happened to a 2005 photographer who started the “controversy.” This is consistent with US copyright law for all artworks.
