The Aura River is the central artery of Turku. It flows through the center of the city and then out to the edge of the archipelago into the Baltic Sea. Much of Turku sits within walking distance of the river: the castle at its mouth, the market square, the ruins of medieval Turku that have been uncovered and now sit in the Aboa Vetus / Ars Nova museum.

The Turku Dom Cathedral, which began construction in 767 AD, is also a stone’s throw from the river. Every week there are free concerts there. Last week, we went to an pipe organ concert and listened to Bach‘s Fugue in C Major reverberate through the wooden pews into our bones.
